Hello, welcome to a little thing called 750 Words

★ What is this site about?

It's about learning a new habit: Writing. Every. Day.

I've long been inspired by an idea I first learned about in The Artist's Way called morning pages. Morning pages are three pages of writing done every day, typically encouraged to be in "long hand", typically done in the morning, that can be about anything and everything that comes into your head. It's about getting it all out of your head, and is not supposed to be edited or censored in any way. The idea is that if you can get in the habit of writing three pages a day, that it will help clear your mind and get the ideas flowing for the rest of the day. Unlike many of the other exercises in that book, I found that this one actually worked and was really really useful.

I've used the exercise as a great way to think out loud without having to worry about half-formed ideas, random tangents, private stuff, and all the other things in our heads that we often filter out before ever voicing them or writing about them. It's a daily brain dump. Over time, I've found that it's also very helpful as a tool to get thoughts going that have become stuck, or to help get to the bottom of a rotten mood.

750 Words is the online, future-ified, fun-ified translation of this exercise. Here's how it works:

Every day you write, you'll get beautiful stats that analyze the feelings, themes, and mindset of your words.

Mom Illustrates All The Pregnancy Problems No One Wants To Talk About

Body hair. Swelling. Invasive questions.
These are just some of the difficulties pregnant women have to deal with. Illustrator and mother of two Line Severinsen began drawing cartoons of pregnancy problems back in 2012 while pregnant with her first child. The artist, who lives in Bergen, Norway, manages to perfectly capture the array of challenges with wit and humor. Because sometimes you've just got to laugh.
"I thought to myself that there is no way that no other people felt and looked like I did," she told The Huffington Post in an email. "So I wanted to create a counterpoint to help people like me to understand that they weren't alone and that it is OK to feel and act less than perfect sometimes."
Severinsen plans to eventually turn her art into a book.
"It's really rewarding to see that my drawings and experiences are resonating well with so many people ... I now have a 3-year-old girl and a 5-month-old boy, which guarantees that I won't run out of stories for many years to come."

Check out more of Severinsen's work on Instagram and Facebook

This is supposed to be a good wine? – ez hiába tűnik kijelentő mondatnak, mégis kérdés.
Gotta run. Could be fun. – Megette a cica a mondatkezdő személyes névmást. Falánk állat, gyakran teszi.
Látod? Még a merev, vaskalapos angol nyelvtan is megadja magát, ha társalogni hívják.
Úgyhogy hagyd abba a véres-verejtékes küszködést a mondatkezdő nagybetűtől a mondatvégi írásjelig!

Please be careful with the fridge door. It’s difficult/hard to close. They will fix it soon/the day after tomorrow. Please don’t leave open. It’s full of food. (=Kérlek, légy óvatos a hűtő ajtajával. Nehéz becsukni. Nemsokára/holnapután megcsinálják. Kérlek, ne hagyd nyitva. Tele van kajával.)
Érted? Fogd a mondandód lényegét, és add át úgy, ahogy az anyanyelvi beszélők: rövid, tört mondatokban.

The Top 4 Soft Skills That Candidates Need Right Now

When we speak about skills shortages, we’re often focused on the hard, industry-specific sorts of technical skills. However, soft skills are also crucial for employee success in today’s day and age.
This newfound appreciation for the value of soft skills is reflected in many studies, including one from Adecco, which found that 44 percent of senior executive respondents believe that Americans lack soft skills. Compare that to the 22 percent who believe Americans lack the necessary technical skills and the 12 percent who believe they lack the necessary software skills.
According to today’s leaders, the real skills shortage is in the realm of soft skills.
Soft skills are hot right now, and modern professionals looking to advance their careers need to make sure they have the soft skills that employers are looking for. To that end, here are four soft skills that every professional should master today:

1. Leadership Skills
The Adecco survey mentioned above found 14 percent of senior executives thought there was a shortage of leadership skills in today’s workforce. If you want to stand out as a strong leader, you need to be sure you don’t confuse “leadership skills” with “management skills.”
Management skills are the technical foundations of leadership, and the category includes things like the ability to complete appraisal forms, organize meetings, and use management software. What executives are really looking for are the soft skills of leadership — e.g., the ability to make difficult decisions, inspire one’s employees, and prioritize work.

35 gifts which your kids will never forget

Most kids nowadays have dozens of toys, so it’s often hard to impress them with something new. However, the best gifts don’t come from the shops.
Here’s a list of the best things parents can ever give their children. How many of them have you already passed on?

  1. Affirmation
Sometimes one simple word of affirmation can change an entire life. So make sure your children know how much you appreciate them. And then, remind them every chance you get.
  2. Hugs and kisses
You might have seen those fathers who tell their young sons that they’re too old for kisses. Doesn’t it make you upset? Know that your children are never too old to receive physical affirmation of your love for them.
  3. Meals together
Meals provide unparalleled opportunity for relationship, the likes of which can not be found anywhere else. So much so, that a family that does not eat together does not grow together.
  4. A sense of humour
Laugh with your children everyday...for your sake and theirs.
  5. The ability to see beauty
Help your children find beauty in everything they see...and in everyone they meet.
